In bad times like this we need the voices of patriots that will put authorities under sustain pressure to do the right thing, especially on matters that border on constitutionality.ADVERTISEMENTADVERTISEMENT
I’m not talking about sectional or parochial utterances, but those whose voices that will put forward a national agenda. Those that will speak on behalf of the oppressed, the exploited, the pauperized, the dehumanized, the suppressed, the weak, the persecuted etc.
This is the time we miss people like late Gani Fahemi, late Dr Yusuf Bala Usman, late Tai solarin.
There are still few that still stand to be counted. Balarabe Musa (age is not on his side) and possibly Oby Ezekwelisi. There is also the fire brand Hajiya Najatu. Some how it appears Dr Junaid is graduating from a sectional commentator to a national one. SLS( the Emir Kano) is irrepressible as he continues to raise fundamental issues on how the economy is being ran aground by flip flop policies and how some economic policies, especially Forex has been infested with a lot corruption a la fuel subsidy. Pat Atomi of the Lagos business school is doing a lot to impress on the authorities to change its economic gear that have been compounding our economic woes. There are three religious leaders that have dawned the consequences of being targeted by authorities and have been speaking the truth. Sheik Ahmed Gumi earns my respect for speaking the truth and taking a broader perspective on some of ills of this regime, devoid of any sentiment. Cardinal Okogie has never spared any leader whether he is a Christian or Muslim. He came to prominence during the IBB days and took on most leaders on their oppressive and exploitive policies. Despite being old and having retired from priesthood,he continues his pro people’s comments. He just issued one this week. Bishop Mathew Kuka although his initial comments on GEJ appeared to be slightly defending the regimes monumental corruption, but he has gotten over the challenge and has been speaking on the problems associated with bad governance and has consistently proffered solutions devoid of sentiments.

This is a clarion call for a coalition of patriotic forces to put forward a national agenda for this regime to follow.
