My thoughts on Ganye politics has always been that of a man with an ear to the ground, not because I constantly stay with my people but because I always dare to call a spade a spade. With the coming of Governor Mohammed Bindow to Ganye yesterday 16/11/2016, another aspect of our politics was exposed thereby leaving bare the nakedness of those who always seek to feet fat on sentiment in order to continue to hoodwink and pacify the poorer elements of our land.
In the past few months, the former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Ibrahim Tahir Shehu was invited to an APC stakeholders meeting led by Alh Jibrin Ali Gangjari, Tafidan Yebbi. The event was successful, colourful and first of its kind since the formation of the party in Ganye by the former Commissioner himself who donated more than 40 party offices across the local government under the then administration of Governor Murtala Nyako.
During the said stakeholders meeting and being a political get-to-gether to confront the upcoming Chairmanship election then, contribution was called for from all members and Barr. Ibrahim Tahir donated donated N-200,000:00 for the Chairmanship campaign and later donated N-100,000:00 to the party EXCOS. No one apart from my humble self made any donation on that day despite the fact that the event was witnessed by some who claimed to have been part of the formation of the party in Ganye.
However, few days after the event, some disgruntled members present at the stakeholders meeting, assisted by some immature and local political champions, contributed money and organised a rally of over 40 vehicles and paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Adamawa State only to accuse the APC Chairman, Ganye, Alh Jibrin Ali that the invitation extended to the former Justice Commissioner was a calculated plan to adopt Mallam Nuhu Ribadu by the APC Ganye Exco and in a letter to the Governor, they demanded that the APC Chairman be removed immediately and in his place, they suggested some dead woods politicians to replace him.
The Governor in his wisdom, referred them to the party, the right forum for such complaints and declined to entertain the petition. The following week, they staged another rally to the State Secretariat of the APC in the state and placed similar demand that because Barr. Ibrahim Tahir was invited in that stakeholders meeting, Ganye APC have decided to shift its attention from Governor Bindow to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
The plan was orchestrated by a former Chairman of Ganye Local Government Council who was picked from the garbage by the former Commissioner for Justice and made the Chairman of the Council. He used ethnic sentiment to win over many of our unsuspecting citizens and those who agreed with him failed to realise the fact that the same former Chairman used to stay from morning to the evening in the former Justice Commissioner’s house as his political boy until he was made the Chairman. During that time of his struggle to become the Chairman, he didn’t realise Ibrahim Tahir was a Fulani man or “pulimi” as he was derogatively referred to until now that he has fallen out with him.
They wanted Governor Bindow to take up their fight for them and unfortunately for them, all that went on that suicide mission to Yola then, none of them can say in all honesty and sincerity that he did not benefit from Barr Ibrahim Tahir one way or the other.
The Governor declined to be persuaded or convinced to fight with Tahir and unknown to many present in that protest then, Barr Ibrahim Tahir maintained a very good relationship with Governor Umar Bindow and have been closely relating and supporting each other.
The above fact was revealed day before yesterday at Gangwari Square when in a speech marking the flag off of Ganye township road construction, the Governor stood for a while and later change the topic to talk about the virtues and maturity of Barr Ibrahim Tahir whom he referred to as his elder brother and did not stop there. He also called on the most respected personality of Ganye Chiefdom, the Gangwari of Ganye, HRH Alhaji Umar Adamu Sanda to give Barr Ibrahim Tahir all the necessary assistance and support he may need. The Governor also disclosed that he has been having a very good understanding and relationship with Barr Ibrahim Tahir and that understanding is a long lasting one.
I then wondered and was thrown in abject bewilderment how they wanted us to believe then that because the Ganye APC Chairman invited Barr Ibrahim Tahir to a stakeholders meeting, Governor Bindow was angry with the development and had supported the removal of the party Chairman.
This is how they use ethnic sentiment to confuse us always. When Barr Ibrahim Tahir was the Commissioner for Justice, they were lying all prostrated on their fat bellies and as sycophants struggling for Chairmanship, Councillorship and several other appointments in the Government. But now that he is no more there, they would want us to be far away from him because he is “pulimi”! Not in this 21st century when what matters is not the language you speak or the colour of your skin but what you can offer to the progress and development of the society. I prefer Barr Ibrahim Tahir, a Fulani man who sponsored many Chamba young men in various schools and political offices to a Chamba man who stole the whole of December salary from Ganye Local Government Council and turned a blind eye to the sufferings of many of his Chamba brethren working under him. Let’s embrace the popular philosophy of politics without bitterness by the late Ibrahim Waziri.
Thank you Governor Bindow for vindicating my stand that what those political opportunists were doing then was nothing but just a smear campaign of calumny using premordial sentiment as a tool which will not go any far. Now Governor Bindow has exposed that stand, people! Beware of them.
