Our country has become rudderless and adrift to destruction because society has lost all values.
Mr. Oscan Okafor imported, Mr. Mahmud Hassan was the Clearing Agent, and Sadique Mustapha was accompanying the consignment to its destination.
In the end, the rifles would have been sold to Boko Haram, armed robbers on the prowl, the killer “herdsmen” and the kidnappers.
Those guns could have killed preventive customs men on duty. Customs men cleared the consignment. The guns could have slain policemen engaging armed robbers. Police let the guns pass through some road checks for pittance! In the hands of BH, villagers would be killed innocently. In the hands of the “herdsmen” we would have more Kwayine, Kodomon, Boron in our hands.
Consider all this and blame it on first, Corruption. We are a fantastically corrupt society. Money to the individual is in the centre of it all. It is the reason Governments are unable to perfectly establish a narrative of why things are the way they are in order to make amends. It is all pervading, and that is what scares me. It has to begin with the Governments. We need Governors that would say -NOT UNDER MY WATCH and proceed to identify the problems and deal with them.ADVERTISEMENT
Take the herder farmer clashes. How can it be beyond us to secure the peace with which to grow our own food, raise our animals, trade with one another and live well? How can this be beyond us?
It takes a resolve for zero tolerance of crime, even petty ones. Begin with enforcing traffic rules. VIOs to check vehicle papers and impound. Road Safety Corps to drop extra passengers on the way strictly. Mobile courts on highways enforcing civility. Road checks by Police and NDLEA should be thorough. Police our streets in the true sense of the word, not the charade that I see. We can not restore law and order without addressing these small ones.ADVERTISEMENTADVERTISEMENT
We must make the courts function to enable the ordinary man secure his needed justice promptly, lest in frustration, he resorts to taking the law into his own hands to serve justice to his satisfaction.
Is any of this beyond us but for our corrupt nature – for which our beautiful and richly endowed nation is in self destruct mode?
