Ex-Governor Bala Ngilari Faces 5 Years Imprisonment

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of previous Adamawa state governor, Barrister Bala James Ngilari over the honor of agreements worth N167.8 million without response to due process.

The conviction was given on Monday by Justice Nathan Musa of the Adamawa State High Court sitting in Yola.

The Commission had organized a 19 count-charge as a detriment to Ngilari, his previous secretary to the administration, Ibrahim Andrew Welye and his previous Commissioner of Finance and Budget, Sanda Jonathan Lamurde. 

Bala, was sentenced by the court for illicitly acquiring 25 units operational vehicles (Toyota Hilux) for his previous Commissioners at the cost of around 167,812,500 while he was a Governor of the State from 2014-2015 without taking after Procurement procedure of Bureau for open procurement,a statutory body set up by laws of Adamawa state to vet contracts.

The convict, was dragged to Yola High court by agents of the Economic and Financial wrongdoings commission (EFCC) through a grumble by state experts over such infringement of the acquisition procedure in an agreement he granted to a private firm, “AL-YADIM LIMITED” for the acquired of the 25 vehicles.

The EFCC had charged Ngilari for infringement of obtainment laws in the honor of agreement of N167million to one El-Yadi Motors Limited for supply of 25 units of operational vehicles (Toyota Corolla).
