Adamawa State Goverment has destroyed over 24,000 various species of birds infected with Avian Influenza commonly known as bird’s flu.
The farm manager of Adda Goro Farm in Toungo Local Government Area where the outbreak occurred, Mal. Mohammed Hassan said over 24,000 fowls, 250 peacock, 456 Guinea fowls and 54 Turkeys affected had been destroyed.
Briefing journalists shortly after the disposal, Hon Commissioner for Livestock production Mal. Isa Salihu said His Excellency Governor Muhammadu Umar Jirilla has directed the Ministry to take all precautionary and containment measures to curtail the spread of the disease.
Mr. Salihu said all workers in the affected farms have been quarantined, “We thanked God for quick intervention to contain the disease from spreading to other farms.”
Already the state government has massively embarked on sensitization campaign for people to avoid contact with dead birds or infected once and movement of birds, eggs and other related animals have been restricted as part of the measures to contain the disease.
