To say that the intimidating rising political profile of Hon Lumsambani Mijah Dilli is sending shivers down the spines of the so called big time politicians and their cronies seeking and struggling for political relevance in Demsa Local Government is to state the obvious.
Only recently these class of politicians have recruited into their fold some miscreants who have been paid handsomely to carry out a smearing campaign on the reputation and personality of the distinguished honourable member whose overwhelming political influence in the state lately is spreading like wild fire
Not too long ago, the personality of Hon Mijah had come under attack on the social media circle while certain premeditated actions aimed at rupturing his existing cordial relationship and respect among his own community were carried out. Such feeble and funny attempts to discredit his person have not only portrayed them as selfish and immatured minds but provided an easy platform to investigate and determine their motive which invariably turned out to be share fear for competition and primitive politics.
The highly respected and revered Dilli born politician has carved a niche for himself in politics not only among his local community but beyond the boundaries of his constituency, As an astute, pious, ebullient and venerable politican, he has created confidence in the hearts of his people through civilized representation and opening up of a new chapter in home politics.
If his Adversaries had acted in reverence, it would have been understood but knowing that such action was fear driven by selfish few to maintain their political grip over a frustrated community whom they have exploited for decades raises fundamental questions. Perhaps there is no need to ask further why these crop of politicians dread Hon Lumsambani so much.
We need to understand the political chemistry of DEMSA local Govt area which consists of the Mbula, Bille, Mayah and Bwatiye as the major ethnic groups before drawing the desired conclusions on this matter.
The political Wards of DEMSA are; Bille, Borrong, Demsa, Dilli, Dong, Dwam, Gwamba, kpasham, Mbula, and Nassarawo Demsa out of which Mbula, Dilli, BORRONG, Gwamba, and Dwam are predominantly Mbula speaking wards.
Kpasham wàrd is predominantly Mayah people. Bille Ward is also dominated by the BILLE speaking people. Nassarawo Demsa ward is controlled politically by the Hausa Fulani and Bwatiye people. Bwatiye people also dominate Dong Ward though with extremely
significant impact of BILLE, Mayah and waka speaking people. In the same vein, DEMSA ward is politically controlled by both the Mbula and Bwatiye people.
Apparently, some people are ignorant of this political structure resulting to wrong perception that they are politically dominated. The skewness of the distribution of the ten political wards make it seemingly easy for people that read things from the surface to insinuate unfairness in the politics of the local government. Even at that, you can not control close to 60% and not want to dominate. Its a sad reality!
If may ask, WHO IS DOMINATING WHO? For lack of space, let’s have a cursory look at the three major offices of Member, Local govt chairman and commissioner.
It all started started with my uncle Hon Ngaro who was elected into the state Assembly when Barr Obi Dah opted for commissionership. After eight solid years as member representing DEMSA, Hon. Ngaro handed over the baton to Hon. WALE FWA who served her two terms before handing over to the present member, HON Lumsam Mijah Dilli presently his first term. From this towering revelation, the Membership actually moved from central zone (Dwam ward) to Bidoma zone (kpasham ward) and now Mbula zone (Dilli ward). For the purpose of fair play, the Member ought to remain in the Mbula zone and specifically Dilli ward for eight years (up to 2023) as was the case with Hon Ngaro and Hon. Wale FWA. Anything short of this is unfair to, first, the Mbula people and specifically the good people of Dilli. Since DEMSA people unanimously allowed Dwam and kpasham wards to run their eight years uninterrupted, it’s fair justice to allow Dilli ward to also exhaust its eight years uninterrupted to avoid setting a terrible precedent and confusion in the future. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander!
Hon. Obi Dah(Bille ward) was commissioner for about 4years, Hon. Teneke came onboard as commissioner from the central zone (DEMSA ward), Chief Medan Teneke also was onboard as commissioner (DEMSA ward), Hon (Dr) Hamadama(BILLE ward) was also a commissioner within the period while Mrs Marilyn(DEMSA ward) and Sir Hon. Felix Tangwami from BORRONG also emerged commissioners. The present commissioner Hon Mathias Ngaro, is from Dwam ward. By implication, the commissionership position has moved round the three zones of DEMSA local govt between 1999 and 2018.
In like manner, the Chairmanship has also gone round the three zones between 1999 and now. From Chief Felix Tangwami (BORRONG ward) to Hon James okossi(kpasham ward) and Chief Felix Tangwami again. After that Late Elam jika(BILLE ward), Rev Newton Ubeh(Mbula ward) and now Hon Mrs WALE FWA(Kpasham ward) is the chairman.
From the above analysis, only Gwamba and New Demsa are justified to complain of marginalization and domination. Dong ward at a point produced a senator. This unwholesome narrative of marginalisation and domination by a section of an ethnic group is not only misguided but has no iota of truth. Nobody is dominating anybody in DEMSA politics. They should find a way of setting themselves free from this mental slavery occasioned by the feeling of political insecurity. The only thing that worked and will continue to work and bear fruits is zonal alliances. It’s the fruits of these across – zones alliances that produced the key actors mentioned above. We should not allow illusive and myopic self defensive, baseless speculations to rob us of the golden opportunity of extending our hands across the zones.
It is unfortunate that the man behind the mask has lost touch with reality. The towering achievements of Hon Mijah are not hidden and we are not prepared to fall to the temptation of jeopardizing our social existence and political arrangement in Demsa Local Government for a cheap blackmail and misquided political ambition predicated on mischieve to perpetuate political slavery and sustained exploitation of our people.
Our people are intelligent enough to comprehend the voice of jacob in whatever disquise .
This is apparently the case of “the voice of jacob and the body of Esau.”
What Hon Lumsam deserves is reverence for his apparent impressive track records and not some sort of fear of dwindling political fortunes by few selfish individuals who are striving on the petals of political exploitation. The Holy Book says it all: there is no fear in love for fear has to do with punishment. This clearly explains the circumstances of the silent adversaries of the amiable, pious and ebullient Legislator.
