Speaking during an event held at Jigawa State Library Hall to mark the 1st Adamawa State anniversary in Jigawa State , Wali said he is presenting this speech with a heavy heart, being a young indigine of Adamawa who fully knows what youth and students pass through in the state.
The statistics are sobering. Seventy per cent of Adamawa States population is youth and it’s the youths who participated more in exercising their human rights by voting for their leader. He added that in every society across the world, the youths constitute critical elements in the development equation. Whatever the human and material resources endowments of any country, no serious government can afford to neglect or overlook the youths, who indeed are the foundation for the future.
He said, “Some of our youths have turned into evil agents because of abject neglect by government at all levels. Had past governments kept about 50 per cent of their promises to the youths of this state, Adamawa would have been a place that its citizens would be proud of.”
The President while addressing the elders said that he was not happy that government had also failed to create agencies to train youths and students in other to enable them to acquire skills than to even give out scholarships for students who are from the state for a long time. However, he urged the youths to take their destinies in their own hands, in spite of being neglected by the government. Aliyu Wali said he was confident the youths could become role models for others in the state.
He said, “We have young ingines who have been creative in terms of development in information technology. Others have also shown that they can sustain themselves by getting involved in agriculture and allied subjects. “Honestly, the youths, especially the graduates of tertiary institutions of higher learning among them, can team up and set up teaching units.
In many schools today, there is inadequate supply of teachers. Aliyu Kalu urged with Adamawa State Government to look through it and make proper arrangement in other to tackle the problems that we are facing and the youths should not just fold their arms and say that because government is not doing anything for them, they would waste their time on irrelevant things.” He quoted that “work hard and you will achieve what you want”.
