Violent Extremism: Hon. Sajoh calls on North-East to reconstruct region’s narrative

The Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Comr. Sajoh has identified two types of violence that are plaguing the northeast region. One, he said is direct which is usually expressed in physical, psychological and counter value violence against an opponent. And the second one is structural violence that exist when some groups or nationalities have more access or opportunities than other groups or nationalities.

Comrade Sajoh who was speaking at the women’s workshop in Yola recently revealed that there is high level of poverty in the North-East sub-region, adding that map of poverty indicates that eleven of the twenty one local government Areas in Adamawa State have incidence of poverty of about 72%. He decried that this is unacceptable. He called on communities in the sub-region to “reconstruct our narratives and promote good individuals and groups while those who promote bad must be sanctioned”.

In her paper at the workshop “Dialogue on Women's Role in Promoting/Countering Violent, Extremism in Adamawa State”, Haj. Asma'u Joda recommended that poverty must be eradicated so as to stop the vulnerability of the community. She said the economic empowerment of women is a key to restore total peace in the communities.

Hajiya Asma'u Joda called on religious and traditional leaders to promote and preach peace n their communities adding that they have a lot of influence within the communities and hence the need for them to stem the tide of hate speech syndrome.
