Bindow cautions motorists during yuletide period

Adamawa State Governor, Sen. Mohammadu Bindow JIbrilla who doubles as the State Patron of Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety corps, FRSC, has called for precaution among travelers as the buzz of festivity set in so as to ensure accident free throughout Christmas and New Year festivities.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Martins Babale made the call while declaring open the Maiden edition of the Special marshals sectional workshop 2017, with the theme road safety is not a privilege but a right”   held at the Nyako Training centre, State Secretariat complex, Yola.

He said the workshop is deliberately designed to equipped volunteers with requisite knowledge on road safety administration with a view to  sensitizing citizens on their civil responsibly which are vital requirements in safeguarding lives on the roads. The Governor described the workshop as timely considering the world statistics on road accident involving motorists and commuters who are always in a haste to reach their various destinations. He urged Special Marshals to utilize the knowledge acquired at the workshop and put them into practice.

“It becomes more pertinent at this period of festivity that all special Marshals sit down and sacrifice their service to humanity. I call on all participants to pay  rapt attention to the resource persons so the time spent will be well spent. I also call all Nigerians who will be moving from one place to another before and after Christmas to drive with great caution for safety on our roads is a sheer responsibility” He added.

In his remark, the  National Coordinator of the Special Marshals, Sini Kwabe charged participants to take advantage of the workshop by learning from it and appealed to motorists to change their attitude while on the road. Noted that if attitudes can be checked, the rate of accidents will be drastically reduced.

“I want to charge all motorists and members of the public in this period of festivities to endeavour to drive safely as the special Marshals can arrest and prosecute any offender of traffic rules and regulations. He said.

The State Coordinator of the Special Mashals Adamawa State Sector command, Alh. Mustapha Gella had earlier in his welcome address said the task of keeping death off roads is a great one which must not be left in the hands of the FRSC officials alone, but everybody must be ready to commit their time, energy and resources to complement the efforts of the government.

He commended the Governor for recording  tremendous achievements in the construction of many roads in his quest to provide safer motoring environment.

“With all modesty, the entire Special Marshals of this state salute His Excellency's courage for surmounting the numerous challenges of governance by providing needed services and projects to the people. The ongoing development efforts in the state that we see today, feel and touch have not only given our patron credibility but offers hope for the people” he said.

He added that in the past, the Adamawa State Special Marshals   was enveloped in series of misfortune ranging from Boko Haram insurgency, mass exodus of its members, lack of ID cards and kits among others which retarded the perfect existence of a formidable special Marshals outfit, but the new administration has help towards improving the welfare of its members with the provision of ID cards and kits.

He called for the support of  government and other spirited philanthropists to assist FRSC to overcome its challenges which include renovation of the FRSC Command's Auditorium which houses the State Secretariat of the Special Marshals.

Highlights of the event include investiture of 3 personalities as Prestigious Honorary Special Marshals in Adamawa state. They include the secretary to the State Government, Dr. Umar Buba Bindir, chairman, Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Abdullahi Dauda Belel and the former People’s Democratic Party PDP chairman, Adamawa State chapter Alh. Mijinyawa Kugama.

There was also goodwill messages from the Zonal coordinator, Special Marshals, Yola Dankishiya Hakeem and the Corps commander/Sector Commander, Adamawa State Command Adegoke Adetunji.
