Nearly one hundred people were killed in separate attacks in different locations of Adamawa state, North-East Nigeria in the early hours of Tuesday 21st Nov, 2017. The day became a black Tuesday for the affected communities, the state and the country as a whole due to tragedy that befall the state. The colossal loss of lives would indeed have adverse effect on the state considering the number of souls lost in a single day.

The incidences happened in Mubi and Gulak in the Northern part of the state as result of suicide bomb attacks and the attacks on Kikon and Shaforon villages in Numan Local Government area in the Southern part by yet to identified assailants.

In Mubi, the second largest town of the state it was an incident of suicide bomber who detonated an explosive in a Mosque on the worshippers observing Morning Prayer on the fateful day.

Though, Mubi was once captured by the proscribed terrorists group (Boko Haram) in Oct, 2014 who have been carrying out attacks in the North-East, Nigeria for more than seven years now. However, the town was later recaptured by combined forces of Military, Local Hunters and Vigilante group in November 2014. Since then peace was restored to the area and businesses have picked up only for the worshippers at the Madina Mosque in Dazala ward near Arahan Kunu to once again come under attack while praying.

Also the people of Bakin Dutse near Gulak, the headquarters of Madagali local government area in the Northern part of the state were in mourning mood when a suicide bomber had rammed into a camp of vigilante group who were assisting security agencies in the maintenance of peace in the area.

During Tuesday's attack one of the vigilante members lost his life while many others injuries. The area which is close to Sambisa forest in Borno state, the safe haven of Boko Haram terrorists have been a volatile since the terrorists infiltrated the area some years back and had been carrying out their nefarious activities.

Within last week alone, the terrorists had carried out more than seven attacks on Madagali town and Gulak in an attempt to capture the towns but were repelled by gallant military personnel providing security in the area.

But for the people of Kikan and Safaran villages in Numan Local Government area in the Southern part of Adamawa state they are mourning the deaths of more than forty four people mostly women and infants who were massacred while asleep by some heartless people yet to be identified who stormed their residences in the early hours of Tuesday and carried out the deadly attack on the innocent souls.

Though, it was gathered that the incident may not be unconnected with cat and mouse relationship existing between farmers and herdsmen in the area.
This is the first time such incident took place in the area who were predominantly farmers and herdsmen.

Normalcy has since returned to the affected areas while the survivors of the attacks are now receiving medical attention at Mubi General Hospital, Specialist Hospital Yola and Federal Medical Centre Yola.

The Adamawa state Governor Senator Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow and his Deputy Engr. Martins Nasir Babale separately visited the survivors on their hospital beds and commiserated with them over the incidents, assuring that security agencies would not leave any stone unturned to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly acts.

The Governor while calling on the people of Numan to remain calm also said that government will hold security meeting with relevant stakeholders including traditional rulers so as to bring to an end the lingering feud between the two parties so that peace will reign.

He also called on the people of the state to be security conscious at all times, maintained that government will not relent on its oars in protecting lives and properties of the citizens of the state.

Members of the Adamawa state House of Assembly during the plenary condemned the attacks and observed a minute silence for the repose of the souls of the deceased persons as a mark of honour and respect to the victims of the attacks.
