Everything in the world is naturally and biologically categorized into living things and non-living things based on some clear cuts characteristics. The non-living can be physically grouped into metal and non-metal while the living things too can be classified into plants and animals. The classifications continue on and on.
In the same vein, human beings are grouped into two when it comes to analysis, perception and even opinions: We have those who are Optimists and those who are Pessimists.
Optimists see things from the positive side while Pessimists see things from the negative side.
2016 has come and gone forever, what has remained is mere history reviewing 2016, the Pessimists may describe it as the worst year ever witnessed by Nigerians forgetting that no matter how gloomy the sky is, there will is always a silver living. The pessimist tends to throw out the baby with the bath water, which is unfortunate. Many people are pessimists they have refused to see all the good things Nigeria recorded in the year.
Obviously, Nigeria and Nigerians were negatively hit with problems, most especially the economic hardship as a result of economic recession. The recession was as a result of dwindling in the crude oil prices that Nigeria depends for her foreign exchange earnings. Since Nigeria is a mono-economy, the fall in crude oil prices has reduced her income earnings. This has affected her FOREX capacity for import. This situation has exacerbated hardship on the people. It eroded the purchasing power of the people, forced Naira to fall compared to United States of America dollar. It also forces prices of goods and services more especially the food items to rise beyond the common man. Apart from the economic hardship, Nigerians in 2016 were faced with problems of insurgency, kidnapping, cattle rustling militancy, farmers/herdsmen clash and many other challenges.
Nevertheless, despite the numerous challenges, the country has recorded so many achievements. It is in the year 2016 under the leadership of President Buhari that the Boko Haram insurgents were decimated and finally defeated with the gallant Nigerian military. The fall of Sambisa forest to the Nigerian Army is a great achievement worth celebrating the 2016 as the best year for Nigerians. It is also in 2016 that twenty-four (24) Chibok school girls were rescued with other thousands of people freed from the Boko Haram captivity. And to cap it all, the military in 2016 liberated all towns and villages under the control of the insurgents.
Nigeria in 2016, under the All Progressives Party (APC) led by President Muhammadu Buhari has succeeded in divesting Nigerian economy from oil to Agriculture and solid minerals. The diversification programme is succeeding due to the political will of Mr. President and his government. Nigeria very soon will start exporting rice. The Anchour Brower Programmes for the production of rice is gaining momentum and succeeding. Many people now are into rice farming with a lot of people coming up with rice plants. We have the LAKE rice initiative by Lagos and Kebbi. Apart from the Agricultural regeneration, the N-Power has been ongoing in 2016; two hundred thousand (200,000) Nigerians were employed through the programme.
Nigeria also in 2016, has recorded more achievements in the fight against corruption as many looted funds and assets were recovered. Many high profile personalities were arraigned before different courts of law, even for the first time in the history of Nigeria, high ranking judges were dragged before the court of law for their alleged involvement in corrupt and corruption related offences.
Here in Adamawa State, the people of Adamawa under Senator Muhammad Umar Jibrilla saw unprecedented transformation in road construction and rehabilitation. The State Capital Yola has moved out of her village status with poor road infrastructure to a modern city with beautiful roads and streetlight. The Governor recorded all these achievements within 2016. Governor Bindow did not do this only in the state capital, but showed his government presence in Mubi, Numan, Fufore, Guyuk and Ganye to mention but a few.
In the same latitude, within 2016 the Governor succeeded in saving the Education Sector from its sorry state. A State of emergency was declared; an Education Submit was convened where stakeholders in education brain stormed and came up with a workable blue print for its execution in 2017. The Governor, to see things for himself, came with an innovation to notate council meetings in the rural areas. This initiative of the Governor, has many advantages, as it brings government closer to the people, it enables the Governor to inspect the rot as interface especially schools where the meetings take place as well interpret with the people to have clear picture on issues.
Indeed, the good work the Governor and his government rendered in 2016 earned him the prestigious award by the reputable national newspaper. “The leadership” the Governor of the Year Award. This award is out of many Awards he received one testimony of his sterling performance in the outgone 2016.
Interestingly, Adamawa and Nigeria have many blessings in 2016 than the challenges it faced during the year. And with the dou of Mohammadus, present Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla in control, 2017 will be more prosperous.
